Lasse Liljedahl, Game Director for Surviving the Aftermath, penned a letter to players updating them on the game's development and revealing its Steam Early Access launch date! As promised, Surviving the Aftermath will be available on Steam in late 2020; October 22nd to be exact. A new trailer was also unveiled on the Paradox Interactive YouTube channel. The survival strategy game allows players to build up their home base and defend against different kinds of enemies. The trailer highlights some of the build and combat mechanics.
Early Access for the game has been available on Xbox Game Preview and the Epic Games Store since PDXCON 2019. Monthly content updates have come out since then, which Liljedahl notes were made possible by player feedback over the last seven months. He says expanding to Steam support 'allows even more players to get involved during this phase of development where there's still time for us to act on your feedback.' For PlayStation 4 users, launch details are promised to come as the release date gets closer. The official launch date for Surviving the Aftermath was pushed back to 2021 due to the impact of COVID-19.
Liljedahl speaks to some of the development changes since quarantine standards have been in place, saying '…development has been affected with everyone working from home during the global COVID-19 pandemic. Luckily, no one has taken ill thus far, and we'd very much like to keep it that way.' Despite these challenges, developers were able to add a good amount of content since the initial Early Access launch. Additions include trading, vehicles, an enhanced tech tree, society leaders, colony combat, colonist behaviors, and hostile wildlife. Liljedahl also lists highly requested additions that came to fruition, such as 'underground resource extractors, malnutrition, and prioritizing adding combat sooner rather than later.'
He closes out the letter enthusing about the changes to come as the development team continues to work with community feedback. To read the full letter, or find more updates, visit the official Surviving the Aftermathwebsite. Steam users can wishlist the game now on its Steam page.
